Full Itinerary Day by Day
Day 1: Arrival – Arusha National Park
On arrival at the airport, you’ll be met by your dedicated driver-guide, who will stay with you for the entire safari. From there, you’ll head straight to Arusha National Park. Alongside the vehicle-based game drive, a walking safari here is well worth doing — a network of trails winds around the base of Mount Meru, one of which climbs to the rim of the Ngurdoto Crater for some genuinely spectacular views. Lunch is a packed picnic, and at the end of the day you’ll return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park
You’ll rise early and set off after breakfast, around 7:00 AM, for Lake Manyara National Park — a narrow strip of land some 50 kilometers long and 8 kilometers wide. It’s a reliable spot for encountering elephant, wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, hippo, troops of baboon, and the park’s famous tree-climbing lions. Birdlife is a major draw too, with a rich mix of species including flamingo, heron, stork, and pelican gathering along the lakeshore. After a packed lunch, you’ll head back to the lodge in the afternoon, arriving before sunset for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Lake Eyasi
Another early start and 7:00 AM departure takes you to Lake Eyasi, known for its birdlife — pelicans and flamingos among them — and for the two indigenous communities living along its shores, the Datoga and the Hadzabe. The Datoga are recognized for their ironworking traditions and a culture with strong parallels to the Maasai, while the Hadzabe are considered among the last hunter-gatherer peoples in East Africa, having sustained a self-sufficient way of life here for over 10,000 years. Their language is also distinctive, built around a system of click sounds. Lunch is packed, and you’ll return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Ngorongoro Conservation Area – Serengeti
You’ll leave after breakfast, around 7:00 AM, for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Starting near the rim of this dormant volcano, you’ll descend onto the crater floor and come face to face with its resident wildlife — lion, hyena, jackal, zebra, wildebeest, hippo, gazelle, and more. After a packed lunch, you’ll press on toward the Serengeti in the afternoon, arriving before the park gates close, for dinner and an overnight stay at a lodge or tented camp.
Day 5: Serengeti National Park
An early breakfast is followed by a game drive through the Serengeti’s endless plains — widely regarded as one of the most striking landscapes on the planet — in search of cheetah, lion, leopard, hyena, gazelle, elephant, wildebeest, zebra, warthog, giraffe, and rhino. Lunch is packed, and you’ll return to your tented camp around sunset for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Serengeti National Park
A second full day in the Serengeti follows the same early rhythm, with a strong chance of witnessing hunting behavior or mating activity, and a continued search for the rarest of the Big Five to encounter here: the rhinoceros. Lunch is packed, and you’ll return to camp at sunset for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Tarangire National Park
You’ll depart after breakfast, around 7:00 AM, for Tarangire National Park. Despite sitting close to better-known parks, Tarangire holds one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in the region, second only to the Serengeti, along with the highest density of elephants found anywhere in the world. The park is home to an estimated 700 lions, a highly diverse bird population, and classic savannah scenery shaped by umbrella acacia and baobab trees, alongside the region’s iconic large predators. After a packed lunch and the day’s game drive, you’ll return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 8: Departure
Depending on your flight schedule, you’ll either be transferred to the airport after breakfast for a morning or early-afternoon departure, or, if your flight is in the evening, you’ll have the morning free to explore the town of Arusha before heading to the airport.
