Full Itinerary Day by Day

Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park

The day begins with the drive from Arusha to Tarangire National Park, where excellent game viewing awaits. Though modest in size compared to some of Tanzania’s other reserves, Tarangire consistently delivers standout sightings. During the dry season in particular, the park comes alive as wildlife and birdlife converge on the Tarangire River — one of the few permanent water sources in the area. You’ll spend the night at a lodge or camp set within the park itself, offering sweeping views and a distinctive bush atmosphere.

Dinner and overnight at your lodge/camp.

Day 2: Tarangire – Serengeti National Park

This morning you’ll set off toward the Serengeti, with game viewing along the way. After lunch, you’ll enter the Serengeti proper and spend the rest of the afternoon exploring its vast plains, punctuated only by scattered acacia trees and the occasional rocky kopje. Visitors traveling in December, January, or February often have the chance to encounter the migration, with large herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle moving through the landscape. Resident wildlife is abundant year-round too, including giraffe, buffalo, and elephant, alongside major predators such as lion, cheetah, and leopard.

Dinner and overnight at your lodge/camp.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro

Following breakfast, you’ll have a full day of game drives in the Serengeti, starting early to make the most of prime wildlife activity. Your driver-guide will select the best areas to explore based on the season. The terrain ranges from open grassland to rocky kopjes — granite outcrops that offer shelter to a variety of animals and, from their summits, sweeping views across the surrounding plains. This varied landscape sets the stage for outstanding game viewing, with strong chances of seeing elephant, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, and lion, and — with some luck — the more elusive leopard and cheetah. Birdlife is equally rewarding, ranging from the striking secretary bird to the flightless ostrich. In the afternoon, you’ll continue on to Ngorongoro for dinner and an overnight stay at your lodge, on a full-board basis.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha

After breakfast, you’ll drive to Ngorongoro Crater with picnic lunch boxes in hand and descend onto the crater floor — one of the most densely populated wildlife areas on Earth, home to close to 40,000 animals. This offers a strong opportunity to spot all of the Big Five: lion, leopard, the rare black rhino, buffalo, and elephant, along with sizeable herds of wildebeest, zebra, and Thomson’s gazelle. After roughly five hours of game viewing, you’ll make the drive back to Arusha town, where your safari concludes with a drop-off.
