Full Itinerary Day by Day
Day 1: Arusha – Arusha National Park
Your driver-guide will collect you from your Arusha hotel at 8:30 AM and transfer you to Arusha National Park. Here you’ll set off on a guided walking safari accompanied by an armed park ranger, followed by a picnic lunch and an afternoon game drive. Sitting at the foot of Mount Meru — itself a popular climbing destination — the park packs remarkable variety into a small area: dense montane forest sheltering black-and-white colobus monkeys, open savannah, and highland moorland, plus several soda lakes that frequently draw in flocks of flamingo. It’s a park best known not for the “big” wildlife but for its landscapes and rich birdlife. You’ll return to your lodge or camp in the evening for dinner.
Day 2: Arusha – Lake Manyara
After an 8:30 AM pickup from your hotel, you’ll drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a full day of game viewing, picnic lunch included. The entrance road winds through thick groundwater forest — mahogany and acacia trees towering overhead — before opening onto the floodplain. Through the afternoon, keep an eye out for buffalo, giraffe, impala, baboon, and blue monkey. Manyara is famous for its lions, which occasionally climb into the branches of acacia trees, though catching sight of them takes some luck. Depending on the season, the lake’s edge can turn a striking pink, blanketed by thousands of flamingos. You’ll head back to camp in the evening for dinner.
Day 3: Lake Manyara – Central Serengeti
Following breakfast, you’ll travel toward Serengeti National Park, passing through the fertile farmland around Karatu and across the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As the highlands fall away behind you, the road drops into the vast grasslands of the Serengeti, stretching unbroken to the horizon. Your route leads to the Seronera region at the heart of the park — one of its most productive wildlife areas, sustained year-round by the Seronera River. You’ll arrive in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive.
Days 4 & 5: Central Serengeti
These two days are dedicated to exploring the Seronera area in depth. You can choose a relaxed start with breakfast at the lodge and a full day out from around 9:00 AM, packed lunch included, returning by early evening — or opt for an early 6:00 AM departure, coming back to camp for breakfast before heading out again in the afternoon. Seronera is widely regarded as one of the best places in Africa to see lion and leopard, thanks to its permanent water source and dense concentration of prey species. Even outside the great migration months, resident lion prides remain highly active here, offering superb game viewing throughout the year. Both days wrap up by around 5:00 PM, followed by a substantial dinner back at your lodge.
Day 6: Central Serengeti – Ngorongoro
A final morning game drive in the Serengeti kicks off the day, after which you’ll set out for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with a picnic lunch en route. The Ngorongoro Crater — the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera — spans roughly 14 kilometers and is ringed by extinct volcanic peaks. Its floor, scattered with natural springs and waterholes, supports an estimated 30,000 resident animals. You’ll settle in for dinner and rest at your accommodation that evening.
Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater (5-Hour Tour) – Tarangire
After an early breakfast, you’ll descend onto the crater floor for a five-hour game drive. Wildlife here is exceptionally concentrated, and sightings often include lion, elephant, zebra, hippo, flamingo, jackal, rhino, and antelope, alongside a long list of resident and migratory birds — eagles, vultures, storks, sacred ibis, kori bustard, blacksmith plover, long-necked heron, and more. Lunch is taken at the scenic Hippo Pool before the climb back up to the crater rim. From there, it’s roughly a two-hour drive to your accommodation in Karatu, where a hot dinner and a proper rest await — you’ve earned it after several intense days on safari.
Day 8: Tarangire
Breakfast is served around 8:00 AM ahead of a full day exploring Tarangire National Park, renowned for its varied terrain spanning nine distinct vegetation zones. Ancient, oversized baobab trees dominate the scenery from the outset, making even a full-grown giraffe look small by comparison. The Tarangire River, which gives the park its name, draws large numbers of elephant, giraffe, lion, antelope, and zebra throughout the day. Watch closely and you might spot a tree-climbing python or the elusive gerenuk. Tarangire holds the highest elephant density of any park in the region, giving you a rare window into elephant family life. The game drive continues into the late afternoon, with a picnic lunch along the way, before you return to camp for dinner and a final night’s rest.
Day 9: Tarangire – Arusha
Your last day begins with breakfast at 8:00 AM, followed by a half-day game drive as you make your way back through Tarangire — Tanzania’s third-largest national park, instantly recognizable by its towering baobabs. Centered on the Tarangire River, the park hosts some of the largest elephant herds anywhere in Africa, and you may also spot lion, leopard, cheetah, lesser kudu, buffalo, oryx, eland, giraffe, and zebra. By mid-afternoon you’ll begin the drive back to Arusha, arriving at your requested drop-off point by around 6:00 PM — bringing your safari to a close with plenty of memories to take home.
