Day 1: Lake Manyara – Serengeti

Following breakfast, you’ll be driven to Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive, picnic lunch included. Established as one of Tanzania’s earliest protected wildlife areas, Manyara sits beneath the dramatic backdrop of the Rift Valley escarpment and is known for its mineral-rich hot springs and striking volcanic rock formations. The park supports healthy numbers of buffalo, elephant, giraffe, impala, hippo, and a wide range of smaller species. Along the shoreline of its alkaline lake, more than 350 recorded bird species gather, including flamingo, pelican, stork, sacred ibis, cormorant, and Egyptian goose. Manyara’s signature sighting, however, is its tree-climbing lions, often found draped across acacia branches several meters off the ground. Beyond the wildlife, the sweeping views over the Great Rift Valley add another layer to the park’s appeal. Just past the entrance gate, the road cuts through forest inhabited by baboon and blue monkey troops, among other species you may encounter over the course of the day. After lunch, you’ll continue on to the Serengeti, with wildlife viewing along the way.

Dinner and overnight in the Serengeti.

Day 2: Serengeti – Ngorongoro

Since the Serengeti’s plains cover such a vast expanse, today’s visit takes the form of a morning game drive with a picnic lunch, followed by a scenic transfer toward Ngorongoro in the afternoon, with further game viewing en route. The Serengeti is best known for its great wildebeest migration, a year-round cycle rather than a single event: herds move through the southern plains from roughly December to May, then shift toward the western and northern reaches of the park from June through October. The bulk of the wildebeest — the migration’s defining species — begin pushing north and crossing the river systems starting in May and June, continuing their circuit until they loop back to the southern plains by December. After lunch, you’ll head onward to Ngorongoro Crater, a natural amphitheater roughly 260 square kilometers in area, home to an estimated 25,000 large mammals, including elephant, wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, gazelle, and predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, African wild dog, and jackal.

Dinner and overnight in the Ngorongoro highlands.

Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, you’ll descend to the crater floor for a morning game drive with picnic lunch. Ngorongoro is the world’s largest unbroken volcanic caldera, and within its walls nature operates largely undisturbed — a self-contained ecosystem often described as one of the wildest and most concentrated wildlife arenas on Earth. The crater’s beauty and its year-round density of animals are what set it apart: species ranging from Egyptian geese to the critically endangered black rhino live out their lives almost entirely within its rim, alongside elephant, wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, buffalo, gazelle, and predators including lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, African wild dog, and jackal. Ngorongoro is widely considered one of Africa’s most extraordinary natural features, sustaining an immense range of wildlife and sheltering one of the last visible populations of black rhino in Tanzania. The wider Ngorongoro Conservation Area has been put forward as a candidate for the “Eighth Wonder of the World,” and the crater itself holds UNESCO World Heritage status. A single day barely scratches the surface of what’s on offer here — the action rarely lets up — but given time constraints, you’ll enjoy a late lunch before being transferred to Arusha, Moshi, or Kilimanjaro International Airport to conclude your safari.
